Atlantis is ready to begin construction of the four-turbine first phase of the MeyGen tidal array project after nailing down final pricing and terms with contractors.

ABB will tackle civil works and onshore electrical equipment supply while JDR Cable Systems will supply subsea cables, as first reported in subscription-only newsletter reNews in January.

Robert Bird Group, Global Energy Group and JGC Engineering & Technical Services take point for design and supply of the turbine foundation while James Fisher Marine Services will handle offshore construction works, including installation of the subsea cables, foundations and turbines.

Andritz Hydro Hammerfest and Atlantis will supply turbine nacelles. O’Connor Utilities will provide directional drilling of cable bores from the onshore site to the seabed.

Atlantis chief executive Tim Cornelius said the company “continues to work closely with all relevant financing and contracting parties to reach financial close for Phase 1A of MeyGen”.

“This flagship project remains on track for the commencement of onshore construction works in 2014 to establish the power conditioning hub, followed by offshore installation activities during 2015,” he added.

Atlantis has meanwhile replaced N+1 Singer and appointed Peel Hunt as nominated advisor and sole broker to the group.
